Advanced Practice Providers
The Chattanooga Heart physicians have carefully chosen our nurse practitioners for their ability to closely work alongside them in managing your care. Our nurse practitioners all have master’s degrees in advance practice nursing and specialized training in cardiac care.
Gillian Akins came to The Chattanooga Heart Institute from a heart and vascular medical practice in Charlotte, NC, where she served as a nurse practitioner. She has also worked in pulmonary critical care, surgical ICU and trauma ICU. Gillian received a Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Gillian works with our cardiothoracic surgery team.
Genna Barnett is a family nurse practitioner who has extensive cardiac experience. She also has experience as a nurse practitioner in primary care and geriatrics. Genna received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Memphis, Memphis, TN where she also received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Josh Black holds a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga where he was a National Society of Collegiate Scholars Member and Student Director of the UTC Christian Student Center. Josh has been with The Chattanooga Heart Institute since 2013.
Abby Burroughs began working with The Chattanooga Heart Institute in 2019. Abby completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Freed-Hardeman University and then earned a Master of Science in Nursing with dual concentrations from Southern Adventist University. She holds two national board certifications from the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner as well as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Abby has worked as an RN in the Emergency Department and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. She now serves as a nurse practitioner working with our inpatient cardiology team
Stevens Chancey holds a Master of Science in Nursing from Southern Adventist University. He received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Stevens has many years of experience in cardiology both as a nurse and as a nurse practitioner. Steven sees patients in our Cleveland office.
Cindi Cross holds a Master of Science in Nursing from Maryville University in St. Louis, MO. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in Phoenix, AZ. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Cindi worked as a cardiac intensive care nurse at Emory University and in other area hospitals. Cindi sees patients in the office of our cardiothoracic surgeons.
Kayla Hood is a nurse practitioner in practice with our cardiothoracic surgeons. Kayla graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University San Marcos in San Marcos, CA. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Kayla worked as an intensive care nurse in Canton, GA and San Diego, CA.
Kelly Licht has been serving as an inpatient cardiology nurse practitioner with The Chattanooga Heart Institute since 2013. She graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a nationally certified family nurse practitioner and a Clinical Cardiac Nurse Practitioner with the American Board of Cardiovascular Medical Accreditation. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Kennesaw State University in Marietta, Georgia. Kelly worked as an RN in the pediatric respiratory acute care and adult medical-surgical areas. Prior to that, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Michael Loga is a nurse practitioner in practice with cardiothoracic surgeons. Michael has extensive experience in adult cardiac and critical care. He received a Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner in 2006 from the University of Tennessee. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern Adventist University. Prior to joining The Chattanooga Heart Institute, he worked for a number of years as a registered nurse then as a nurse practitioner at the Alliance of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgeons. Prior to that position, Michael worked as a nurse at Memorial Hospital for 13 years.
Kelly Phillips received a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Kelly graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has more than 28 years of healthcare experience and has been a nurse practitioner for more than 21 years. Kelly has worked at The Chattanooga Heart Institute for more than 13 years.
Sally Randall has been with The Chattanooga Heart Institute since 2013 working with our cardiologists both in the hospital and in the office setting. In addition to a Master of Science in Nursing, Sally also holds a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology with an emphasis in Health and Wellness. Sally sees patients in our Cleveland office.
Holly Rogers holds a Master of Science degree in Advanced Practice Nursing from Southern Adventist University. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Tennessee Technological University. Holly has 23 years of healthcare experience with 21 of those years spent working specifically in cardiology.
Melissa Smith-Vaughn earned her Master of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She has been a nurse practitioner since 2009. Melissa has more than 20 years of direct patient care in hospital and clinic settings. Melissa sees patients at our main office.
Sabrina Stover earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has experience as a nurse practitioner in infectious disease, in primary care offices and skilled nursing facilities as well as nursing experience in emergency rooms and cardiac inpatient care. Sabrina sees patients at our main office and at the Atrium office on Gunbarrel.
Teresa Swanger is an adult gerontology nurse practitioner who worked at The Chattanooga Heart Institute as a nurse for many years before pursuing her master’s degree to become a nurse practitioner. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Southern Adventist University. Teresa works with our cardiologists in the care of their patients.
Carol Wilbanks holds a Master of Science in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care from Southern Adventist University. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Carol worked as a registered nurse at The Chattanooga Heart Institute for 13 years. Carol has worked as a nurse practitioner in utilization management at Health One Alliance in Dalton, GA. She works with our cardiologists in the care of their patients primarily at our Chattanooga and Ringgold offices.
Haley Wilson received a Master of Science in Nursing from The University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL. She is a dual-certified nurse practitioner. Haley received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. She has more than ten years of health care experience. Haley works with our cardiothoracic surgeons.
Jody Winters came to our practice from Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute. She has also worked as a nurse practitioner in pulmonary/ critical care. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Tennessee State University in Nashville. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Jody is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She has been a nurse practitioner since 2012 and has more than 25 years of direct patient care in hospital and clinic settings. Jody sees patients at our main office.
